Hello good people, Gus-Gus here. It’s been a good month with the pretty weather, we got to go on longer walks. Which means I got to see more of the town like St. Paul’s church and city hall. It’s always a good day when I get to go on a nice long walk. Well I guess I should let you know if dad made his goal to sale 1,000 books in March, he was almost to 800 last week. I did get mom’s grapefruit cake recipe for you all. And I want to tell you about the Earth day thing mom and dad are going to that sounds fun.
The Book Sale
Well when last week dad was almost at 800 books sold and he had this awesome goal of 1,000 books for the month of March. Mom just ran the report so I could have accurate numbers and well dad sold 1,075 books in the month of March.
Thank you to everyone who helped dad sale that many books. It was awesome meeting so many new customers. It was really great seeing our regulars more often. We do hope to see you all again in April.
Mom’s Grapefruit Cake
Okay I was just informed that it’s not mom’s grapefruit cake she found it on Pinterest, either way its awesome. Here is the link http://www.lifeisbutadish.com/grapefruit-yogurt-cake/. Mom has made it several times and it has come out super good each time, I know I get lots of crumbs.
I’m jealous mom is going on 14 April to “Earth Day the Owl Creek Way.” It’s at a park and they will have lots of vendors showing you great ways to recycle and reuse things.
There will be stuff about dehydrating food, raising bees, butterfly gardens, and mom and dad will be showing ways to reuse books. I know we have some tickets for sale and dad talks about it to the customers. I made sure mom got me a picture of their flyer and here is the link https://www.owlcreekgazette.com/ there is more info. Mom says she will tell me all about it and get some pictures. Someone please remind her she usually forgets.
Well until next week lets hope for more sunny days. Next week I get to tell you about the new appliances mom is getting, it’s her retirement gift. She’s retiring from the Air Force this summer and we are super happy. I will get you dad’s coffee chocolate chip cookie recipe mom is working on perfecting. Oh and I will tell you all about The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy that me and mom just finished, I should know what the next book is by then too. Laters.
Hello people, Gus-Gus here again finally. Mom got this new toy called a cricut and she has not been sharing her computer with us. So I had to explain to her the importance of what I was doing here. I’m trying to keep people informed on what we have going on, and we got a lot going on. To start with there is the Book club and what book we chose to go with. Then there is the changes to the third room of the book store. Oh and the Murder mystery dinners that mom and dad are starting.
The Book Club
Well the book club did not have as many people show up as I had hoped. We had one person so mom and I sat and discussed different books with her. Then we picked The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Dad says this is classic Sci-fi, I don’t care I’m enjoying mom reading it to me. We are just getting into and it’s very exciting and interesting. I’m not sure what some of the creatures are, mom says they are just different aliens, I still don’t know what that is. But what they say is still very funny. I’m hoping more people come to the next book club meeting I want to hear what they thought of the book.
The third room of the bookstore
We are moving things around in the house. The couch that has been with us for a very long time and was sitting in the third room of the bookstore has been moved out. Dad says he can now pull out the last of the overstocked books he has on hand. He also says once the book sale this month is over they are going to change that room into a consignment shop. It will have a lot of moms crafts that she has been working on with that cricut thing.
There will also be some of dad’s re-purposed wood signs. I know there were other things they mentioned but so many people come in the bookstore these days I have trouble listening and greeting people.
Murder Mystery Dinner
Okay so this is super cool. Mom and dad did a dry run with some close friends to help figure out cost, flow of events, and meal options. All the people came dressed up and had a character to play with a book that told them things about the character. There was 4 rounds of food. I know I got some chips from the first round, mom says she is going to change that round.
I did not get any of the green stuff from the second round. But some of the rice from the third round made it to me. And mom dropped some raisin she tried to get to before me but I’m super fast. They was all laughing and having a good time. Mom says she will start selling tickets on Wednesday for the next one which will be April 13th. I can’t wait to see the new costume’s and the food changes.
Well that’s all the new stuff we got going on here. Next week I’ll let you know if dad made his goal to sale 1,000 books in March, he is almost to 800 so it’s getting close. I’m also going to get mom’s grapefruit cake recipe. Until next week I hope to see you in the book shop.
My adoring readers, it’s Otis here, and I have not forgotten about you, it’s just I really like my naps and those visitors that come in to see us. I do so want to tell you all about the visit to Metropolis, Illinois. We had a lot of fun for such a small town. As you can see here, me and Gus got to check out the super symbol. Don’t worry I did not mark it. All though now looking back I should have.
The reason I should have marked the symbol
So, here is the reason I should have marked the symbol. We went down to the big piece of kryptonite. As you can see I stood on it with no problems. I actually look pretty handsome if I do say so myself. So it stands to reason that if I can stand on a piece of Kryptonite with no problems then I am stronger than Superman and therefore it should be my symbol not his. With that logic I should have marked the symbol. Well, I was feeling pretty tough after standing on the big piece of Kryptonite and decided to run through some puddles on our way back to the Riverview Mansion Bed and Breakfast. Mom was so upset with me for getting all wet that she used my blanket to dry me off and would not let me go see the Superman statue. She also said it was raining. Now I can’t be too upset with her for drying me with my blanket she said she was not going to get their towels all dirty from me.
The Riverview Mansion
The bed and breakfast we stayed at had two awesome owners Lori and William. They were super nice to me and Gus. We made sure to listen to mom and dad, staying to the room unless we were told we could come out. The room had a nice fireplace I kept sitting really close to in order to warm my back side. This and mom would come move me every time I got close to the fireplace, which was very funny. There was tons of nice smells through the house and lots to look at. The breakfast was amazing. I got a piece of their sausage that they have made special and it was amazing. Also, I got a small piece of Lori’s caramel apple scones which was so yummy I sat and drolled while mom finished eating it. I can’t wait until we go back, dad promised me we would.
Well Metropolis, Illinois is now one of my favorite places. The town had all these really cool shops, most of the windows were short enough for me to look in. They had really neat murals on the walls and statues of both Superman and Lois Lane, which I did get to see from the car window as we drove through town. Dad wanted to stop in town to get more marbles at a shop called Super City Antique’s. I remember the marbles cause mom keeps make jokes about dad losing them. She finds this very funny and dad does not. He just keeps looking and mumbling about how mean she is to tease him. He did find them again, so I think he is all good.
The Road Trip
The trip from home to Metropolis was just over 2 hours. So I got to see lots out the windows. Sometimes dad would let me sit on his lap up front and I could sniff the outside air coming in from vent’s in the car. I could smell the open fields and the frosty air. We had a nice relaxing ride through southern Illinois. Well that’s it from me I will try to write to you more and nap less, but I will not make any promises.
